The All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations came into existence
in October 1997, to get the Office Memorandums dated 30.1.1997,
2.7.1997, 22.7.1997, 13.8.1997 and 29.8.1997, withdrawn. It is important
to note that these Orders were issued because of the High Court and
Supreme Court judgements. Currently, High Courts and Supreme Court are
again giving judgements to withdraw reservation in promotion and
seniority benefits and even if SC/ST employees are competing with
general categories, in the reservation of seats. Thus, reservation is
now needed for the upper castes. The country-wide agitation in 1997,
1998, 1999 and 2000, forced the Parliament to pass 81st, 82nd and 85th
Constitutional amendments and the anti-reservation orders were hereby
withdrawn.
The rally of 11th December 2010 at Delhi was so huge that it was
reckoned as one of the ten biggest rallies after Independence (as per
Hindustan newspapers survey). Had our Confederation not fought for
saving reservation, the reservation quota would have been finished at
that time itself. Which organization has got such a glorious record to
protect the rights of SC/ST people in the country? Which organization
according to you propagated Buddhism in such a big way as was done on
November 4, 2001, when lakhs of Dalits became Buddhists? Which
organization successfully protected the reservation in higher education
for OBCs in 2006? Which organization intervened and struggled for
reservation in Lokpal and presented Bahujan Lok Pal Bill in Parliament?
Of course, it was none other than us!
